Students have made a serious effort to make sure the rights of interviewees have been respected. Before the interview, students explained the purposes of the interview, how it might be used, and asked interviewees to sign a form indicating their informed consent. This form and the project have been approved by Elon University’s Institutional Review Board.

After the interview, interviewees were asked to sign a deed of gift, which releases the interview to the public domain and indicated their willingness to allow Elon’s oral history program to use the interviews in ways that support its educational objectives.

Those who wish to quote portions of the interviews should be sure to include a citation with the name of the interviewee, the name of the interviewer, the date of the interview, and the fact that the interview is part of the archives at Elon University.
